Help Us Rebuild Toronto’s Tree Canopy

The City of Toronto has a goal of reaching a 40% tree canopy coverage by 2050.  Toronto’s urban forest is a critical component of the city’s green infrastructure.  Trees provide important environmental, ecological, physical and mental health, social, cultural and economic benefits and contribute to climate resiliency.  They provide habitat for a wide range of birds, mammals and pollinators.

The 2018 Tree Canopy Study identified that the greatest amount of potential space to grow trees is on private land in Toronto. You can help grow the tree canopy in Toronto by planting new trees on your private property, and our Tree for Free program is a great way to participate.

Because this program is funded by the City of Toronto, trees ordered under Tree for Free are to be planted on private property within the City of Toronto.

Pick up your Free Tree at TKTK  on Saturday, May 24 2025, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

Please note that we will give away any unclaimed trees starting at 3:00pm to walk-ups.
