Tree Canopy Preservation and Enhancement

In 2020 the City of Toronto set a goal to have 40% tree canopy by 2050.

The Long Branch Neighbourhood Association is helping the City achieve this goal in our neighbourhood with dedicated programs such as:

  • Promoting the planting of new trees throughout Long Branch with our annual Tree for Free event. Through this event free native tree species are given to residents. Since 2018 the LBNA has distributed over 7,000 native trees in collaboration with the City.
  • Go to our Shop and reserve your free tree  for pickup on May 24 2025.
  • Neighbourwoods. A joint project with U of T’s Faculty of Forestry to identify and catalogue the tree canopy in Long Branch.
  • Celebrating Long Branches urban forest through Long Branch Tree Fest.  At this event we  have hosted well over 1,000 people annually each September in Marie Curtis Park.
  • Long Branch Remembers planting of new trees to commemorate veterans.
  • Identifying specific trees to be classed as Heritage Trees and to be protected from harm.
  • Developed Free Tree Stewardship educational workshops (Citizen Pruner) and interpretive walks and bike rides in the community.
  • Join out Tree Stewart on informative and interpretive tree walks.
