Description

The Serviceberry shrub/tree is excellent native species choice for those who are looking to plant in a smaller area.  This shrub/small tree plays an important role in the urban ecosystem by providing edible berries for you and local wildlife, as well as habitat to beneficial insects. Birds are especially fond of these berries and you are sure to see them feasting on these berries as they ripen in early-to-mid summer.

This species boasts many beautiful white early spring flowers attracting crucial pollinators to our ecosystem such as bees. Because of the early bloom time of this species, it serves as an important native species for native pollinating insects who are looking for flowers after a long winter.

The Serviceberry has oval or round shaped leaves and the foliage remains green throughout the summer season. Its leaves turn an outstanding orange to purple colour in the fall which would add a pop of colour to your property.

A Serviceberry bush will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed.

If you love to see birds on your property, this could be the tree for you as it is bound to attract local birds who are fond of the Serviceberry shrub/tree.
